Christ Memorial Reformed Church in Holland, Michigan, has undergone tremendous growth since its founding 50 years ago. With approximately 3,700 members, it now ranks as the largest West Michigan congregation in the Reformed Church in America and one of the RCA’s largest nationally. Due to the church’s growth and development, its leaders embarked on a 125,000 square-foot addition and renovation project (66,000 square-foot addition and 59,000 square-foot renovation).
Expanded spaces include a new chapel with seating for 300 worshipers, a teen ministry area, adult education classrooms, a community hall -- also called The Gathering Place -- the rotunda, which is an additional gathering space for fellowship, and a new nursery with child check-in. Renovated spaces included the narthex, which was doubled in size, administrative offices and updated classrooms.
Also included in the construction were new mechanical systems and electrical service. Substantial audio and visual provisions included large-screen projection surfaces, theatrical lighting, elaborate sound boards and a dedicated audio/video control room.
Erhardt Construction expeditiously completed the additions and renovations while maintaining operation of the worship facilities to service the congregation. Construction was divided into phases, keeping the owner in full operation during the renovation process.
