ERHARDT CONSTRUCTION'S 50TH ANNIVERSARY

Posted: Monday, Mar 19th, 2012

Established in 1962, Erhardt Construction is celebrating 50 years of building in the West Michigan area.  To commemorate this momentous occasion, we have planned many exciting activities throughout 2012, with our clients, employees, subcontractors and the community we serve.

As we begin our year of celebration, it is fitting to acknowledging the man who started our firm, Larry Erhardt, Sr.  He established Erhardt Construction as one of the area's most respected construction companies.  To many in the industry he has been a mentor and a source of advice, wisdom and knowledge. As a role model for future constructors, he offers some of the best examples of character, honor and integrity.

Our Founder - Larry Erhardt, Sr.

After earning a civil engineering degree from the University of Detroit, Larry worked in the Detroit area for five years, and then moved to Grand Rapids.  He started Erhardt Construction in the fall of 1962. At age 31, Larry took a leap of faith when he started the company, working from an office in his home.  Business grew steadily and consisted of small projects for local commercial clients.  It led to more complicated municipal, institutional and infrastructure construction, including schools, parking structures, and water and wastewater treatment facilities.

As part of the urban renewal movement in the 1970s, Erhardt built the Calder Plaza Building in downtown Grand Rapids.  This was the first significant negotiated work for the company.  A major milestone occurred when Erhardt Construction was selected to build the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel Tower, which was dedicated in 1983.  For Larry, the completion of the tower was a high point in his career, and demonstrated the extent of Erhardt’s capabilities to the community.

Larry is also proud to have been involved with several signature projects in downtown Grand Rapids, including the Van Andel Arena, Plaza Towers, the Van Andel Institute and DeVos Place.  He greatly values the meaningful relationships, both business and personal, that arose from these commissions.

Although retired, Larry continues to be involved in the construction industry of West Michigan. He is greatly respected by his peers and has established the trust and confidence of clients throughout West Michigan. The list of significant projects successfully completed by Erhardt Construction is a physical reminder of Larry's contribution to the community, but his legacy to our company and community goes beyond bricks and mortar.  Larry's professionalism, kindness, and humility will define Erhardt Construction for many generations.

The Sharpe Collection Land Rover Renovation

Posted: Wednesday, Feb 15th, 2012

Erhardt Construction recently completed the renovation of the Sharpe Collection’s Land Rover showroom in Grand Rapids. The project included an extensive interior renovation of all the existing finishes and display cabinetry. We installed all new wood trim on both the interior and exterior. New drywall partitions were constructed to create new office and reception areas, as well as a new paint scheme and acoustical ceilings throughout the building. Electrical and lighting were installed to showcase the new display cabinetry and signage. Masons installed authentic stacked-stone along the exterior walls on both the inside and outside of the building. Hardwood flooring and carpeting were installed in offices, reception and hospitality areas. On the exterior, a new EIFS system was installed on the canopy, as well as new soffit lighting.  Also two new exterior windows were installed to allow more natural light into the offices and showroom. The entire project took three months to complete.

PROJECT UPDATE: CITY OF FENNVILLE IRON REMOVAL PLANT

Posted: Monday, Oct 31st, 2011

Construction is proceeding on schedule for the City of Fennville's new iron removal plant. Construction started in late June, and the building is scheduled to meet our enclosure milestone by October 7. Crews are on site setting trusses, and shingles are being delivered. All of the site's process piping is completed, and the majority of the site has been restored.

On the interior of the plant, water piping is being connected to the large Tonka filtration vessel and the existing well is being restored and modified. After the roof is on, mechanical and electrical subcontractors will begin with the building's electrical and plumbing rough-ins, as well as starting to install the chemical, water and air system equipment and piping.
